Does Penfolds sell wine directly to the public?
Penfolds wines are available via retailers in Australia, New Zealand, North America, Western Europe and parts of the Asia Pacific region. The only direct sales to the public are for visitors to our wineries at Magill, South Australia and the Barossa Valley, South Australia.
Am I able to receive tasting notes on my older bottle of Penfolds wine?
Penfolds have a number of winemaker's tasting notes for both current and previous vintages of our products. To enquire on any back vintage tasting notes, please contact our Consumer Relations department on 1300 651 650 (Australia only).
What does the word Bin mean?
Bin numbers relate to the sections (or 'Bins') of the cellar in which the original wines were stored.
What is ideal cellaring?
Penfolds recommends that its wines be cellared between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius with a relative humidity level of between 65 - 75 percent. When cellaring wine, maintaining cool, constant temperature is the most important factor. The cellaring conditions need to be dark, free from vibrations and light.
When is the peak drinking period for my bottle of wine?
Peak drinking differs dramatically depending on the vintage of the wine and the cellaring conditions the wine is subjected to. If the wine is not cellared correctly, the wine matures at a faster rate, hence reaching its drinking peak earlier. For further information on drinking windows for Penfolds wines, please contact Penfolds Consumer Relations (Australia only) on 1300 651 650, or click on the email us button on this site.
Can Penfolds re-cork my older bottles of wine?
Penfolds wine clinics are held every two years in each capital city, where consumers can take along their bottles of Penfolds reds and have them checked by a Penfolds winemaker. If the winemaker finds the wine to be in sound condition, the bottle will be re-corked and re-capsuled. Please do not hesitate to contact the Consumer Relations department on 1300 651 650 (Australia only) for further information on Penfolds Wine Clinics.
